Contour Eco Contributions
Contour Eco was able to raise $110 USD in funds to provide to the Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC) through our
Contour Eco products. Our mission is to provide these animal rescues substantial funding to animal rescues, ensuring every animal receives a better life. We aim to provide millions of dollars to these organizations and will not stop until we reach the goal of proper animal care. Stopping the abuse at the source.
About Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC)
MMCC is a non-profit hospital for marine animals that strand on the 70+ miles of beaches from Malibu to Seal Beach due to illness, injury and malnutrition. MMCC has provided life-saving care for marine animals in need since 1992, with the goal of rehabilitating and releasing them back to their ocean home.
As the only year round marine animal hospital in Los Angeles County, MMCC is one of the busiest in the country, admitting on average over 350 patients per year.
MMCC is located in San Pedro near the Port of Los Angeles, on property owned by Los Angeles Unified School District.
Conservation
We actively seek out strategic partnerships to expand awareness for the work we do. One example is our participation as one of the primary care facilities in the Oiled Wildlife Care Network (OWCN), which consists of 36 other wildlife rehabilitation organizations working under the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response. In the event of an oil spill, MMCC will stabilize, wash, and care for affected marine mammals.
We also partner with many local ocean conservation organizations such as Altasea, Oceana, The Sea Change Agency, Cabrillo Aquarium, the six other marine mammal care centers serving the California coastline, and many others to promote awareness about our fragile and critical ocean ecosystem.
Research
As a partner in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Stranding Network (a network of over 100 organizations throughout the United States that partner with NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries to respond to and investigate marine mammal strandings), we regularly contribute to the scientific understanding of the animal populations we treat by tracking population trends, evolving treatment protocols and standards, and developing best practices to deliver outstanding care to animals in need. We also collaborate with well-regarded scientists from around the country to conduct non-invasive research on our patient population and expand our knowledge base.
